SUNSET Bluegrass in LA

The LA outfit known as Water Tower continue to impress the State of California with their dedication to music in general.  They have been performing on the streets of LA for many years now which gives them their distinct "edge".  Here they are with a sunset set that was supposed to be a part of their official festival set at the virtual Huck Finn Jubilee, but didn't make it due to the sunset being too dark to actually see them.

Korey Simeone kicks off the first tune ("Pig In A Pen") with a classic fiddle line to get the bluegrass vibrations flowing.   He happens to shred, which is exciting as a listener and viewer because you can feel the band reacting to the exciting music that seems to endlessly pour out of him.   Perhaps the most exciting moment of Korey's fiddling is at 2:05 while he harkens back to an almost Clark Kessinger (https://cutt.ly/tgPZ2qS) bowing pattern.

Just as the song starts to speed up to the point of almost falling off the rails, the band stops and kick into a piercing version of the gospel favorite "I Saw The Light" originally written by Hank Williams (https://cutt.ly/BgPXeiz).  Not for too long though, because at 4:20 they shift into another Gospel classic known as "Will The Circle Be Unbroken" which was written even earlier, in 1907 (https://cutt.ly/4gPXdiH)

Suddenly at 5:48, Tommy Drinkard (of Tommy Drinkard & Dee Remedy-https://www.facebook.com/drinkardremedy/) breaks into a banjo classic called "The Banjo in The Holler", which soon becomes a rousing rendition of bluegrass standard, "Cripple Creek."

OK, so thus far we can all agree that this set has been pretty traditional in terms of its country and bluegrass sensibility, right?

NOT FOR LONG!

The boys take a turn right into PRIMUS' "Jerry Was A Racecar Driver" and mix it with Grateful Dead-style jamming to introduce Jordan Hook and Joey "Juice" Berglund of the duo, Baxter Elkins  who proceed to rip through the prison song, "Nine Pound Hammer".

Immediately following the big energy is a sombre song that Feinstein, the bandleader, wrote about leaving a town.  The song is aptly titled "Town" and has a music video to go along with it.  This song is also on Water Towers' new album "Fly Around" which can be found on their website (See below)

The total time for this set is a mere 17 minutes, but these boys take the listener on a folk journey through time and place, all while the sun goes down over LA in the background.

The overall mood these boys provide is pure unadulterated fun.  Music for the moment.

Life in the moment.

This music is made to live a life made for this moment, right NOW.
